Oran A. Hall has over 25 years experience in the financial services industry in Jamaica.
He has worked for two leading life insurance companies, namely Jamaica Mutual Life Assurance Society and Guardian Life Ltd.
and has served leading investment company Edward Gayle & Co Ltd, (now NCB Capital Markets Ltd.) as a director. More recently,
he has been providing consultancy services in personal financial planning and pension fund management to several financial
services providers and other businesses.
Oran's track record includes managing, up to 1996, five investment
funds valued then at over $5 billion. These included pension funds, diversified multi-currency international portfolios, and
unitized funds, all of which showed outstanding performance. He priced, negotiated, and managed the purchase of NEM
Jamaica Ltd’s stock to facilitate the takeover of the company by Jamaica M&N Ltd and managed the take over of Guardian
Life by Mutual Life. He was also responsible for developing Security Brokers Limited to become the dominant
trader in Government securities between 1984 and 1987.
Oran has been
a lecturer of Personal Financial Planning at the University College of the Caribbean
since 2004 and is a regular financial columnist for the Gleaner, Jamaica's leading
daily newspaper.
Oran gained his BA (Hons)
degree with an Economics major from the University of the West Indies. His subsequent professional education and training
include personal financial planning, wealth management, financial analysis, pensions, behavioural finance, investing during
retirement, corporate governance, ethics, trusts, securities, investment management, money laundering, and AML compliance.
Most of his training was accredited by the Canadian Securities Institute from which he earned the following: Fellow of the
Canadian Securities Institute (FCSI), Certified Investment Manager (CIM) and Financial Management Advisor (FMA), and the Financial
Services Commission He recently co-authored a popular book, “The Handbook
of Personal Financial Planning” (Actman Int.) for the Jamaican market.
Oran has been addressing
church, community and employee groups on personal financial planning issues for over twenty years.
