"Self-Sufficiency for our people, through Goal-Directed Financial Planning,
enabled by our Financial Professionals."

What Does Our Mission Mean?

Our mission talks about helping financial professionals to empower the Caribbean peoples to achieve financial self-sufficiency.  Whether the advisor is a banker, trustee, wealth manager, accountant, lawyer, insurance or investment broker, the person receiving the advice is usually at the mercy of the professional.

Why? Because the advisor generally has more knowledge and access to market information in his or her field.  Herein lies the dilemma! Families and business owners who buy professional services can never become truly self-sufficient if they do not learn to become more discriminating buyers of these services instead of relying on the advisors to run their financial lives.

It is no different with using medical advisors.  We cannot become healthy by relying on doctors or dentists to give us pills, drugs and treatments, that we never question, every time we have a problem. Instead, we must learn for ourselves what we must do to stay healthy. In both cases, the professionals are not keen for us to become self-sufficient (except in emergencies) since their income would suffer. But why should we suffer?

Our philosophy at the CFPA is to use a more advanced method, which is to show financial professionals how to become even more successful by making themselves redundant!! That is, redundant at the lower level.  Everybody wins!  Join the CFPA and we will prove it to you!

Our Vision

Our Vision is "To bring lasting abundance and dignity to the Caribbean peoples by enabling them to achieve financial self-sufficiency".

We see our association, the CFPA, as a catalyst in this process. CFPA members can provide an ozone layer of financial self-empowerment for our families and small businesses, the economic bricks in the wall of the CARICOM economy. This diverse assortment of human capital is what drives each economy in the region. But the main ingredients in the mortar holding the bricks together are 'sound financial planning and management', subjects not taught in school and learned by trial and (mostly) error.

CFPA members are here to coach, guide and assist our CARICOM human capital resources, to show them how to leverage their power to provide comfortably for themselves, their dependents and their stakeholders with dignity.

Can our vision become a reality? Yes, definitely! Simply by helping to empower each family and small business towards achieving their own financial self-sufficiency and security goals. But this calls for something new - a service the financial institutions should now provide - ie a new culture of training their staff in the skills of professional financial planning and need fulfilment, instead of being product-centric.

The irony is that the institutions will do more (and better quality) business in the end.  Why? Because they will have educated and empowered their customers to avail themselves of a wider range of their services - through getting to know and trust the organisation better.  And with more self-service offerings greater efficiency and profits will result.

Our Region

The CARICOM Treaty was finally ratified on 1st January 2007 and most of the 15 member states have implemented the various directives. So, good progress is being made towards creating a level playing field for delivering professional services to the CARICOM inhabitants.  We are not far off emulating the success of the European Union with their single market system and the benefits which follow.

We intend to attract CFPA Members from the working professionals, trainees and students across the entire CARICOM geography and across all the financially-related professions therein.  We also want to get the attention and involvement of the CARICOM diaspora in the US, Canada and Europe. If they join us they will be taking the first step to return home to work for a worthy and profitable cause of empowering their friends, relatives and the wider community.
